Valdez Ski Report – March 17, 2015 2000AKT
A beautiful day in the Valdez Chugach had the skinners massing in Moonlight Basin again where conditions were mixed in the brush, but very nice dry, fast powder in broad patches at upper elevation with protection. Gulleys were nice. Sluffing by sun was a non issue for me as I summited Big Odessey with a sunrise start via Moonlight Basin, skied down, and then reskinned for a high traverse to crush South Odessey Gulley and was done by 1…pure and simple.
Weather changes to snow overnight, with isolated, heavy showers at times through Wednesday. A series of pinwheel-y lows will keep things coastal, warm with occasional snowshowers throughout the remainder of the week. Better weather less clouds north of Thompson Pass more likely.
