Valdez Ski Report April 26, 2015
Nice week coming up with a trace of snow in the forecast and cool temps at mountain level and scattered clouds. Stability remains GOOD, with typical springtime sluffing. iPowder remain “wornout” on north aspects and corn could develop around noon each day on southerly aspects dependent on sun angles and such. Snowpack remains deep above 3000′ and hope to get out tomorrow after a ski break over the weekend.
Hiked the Shepard Trail above Keystone Canyon yesterday and got this nice shot of Whisters in spring snow conditions, a mountain I’ve done a number of lines on over the years with the main approach right up the gulley gut as the easiest, staying well right away from sluffing slopes.
We have three nominations for Rotorhead of the Year, 2 by Valdez Heli Sk Guides (“Poacher Heli Guides”) and one for Black OPS. I’ll give it some thought and announce my annual winner later this week.
