Back In The Day -Avalanches – 30 Years Ago

Looking through my archives today prior to a skate session on the nicely groomed Mineral Creek trails, I found this gem from the Winter of 85/86 and recall attending the free class. This article helps bring some context to the history of local avalanche awareness and education.

Of course Doug Fesler is a mentor to many Alaskans and others who were exploring Alaska’s mountains on skis. As I reread the article I found the following quote which is as relevant today as it was back in the day.

“Avalanche are predictable and they occur in certain places at certain times”.
