Valdez Ski Report – Adios April!
Ski – Good to Fair. Skied smooth off the summit with 2″ of fresh powder blown around and drifted over a hard, sometimes wind-rippled surface. Still no decrease in snowpack depth as cool weather has sustained retention. Actually seems above normal depth as I was easily able to skin to the summit where in past years I usually had to billygoat around rocks and such. Expect rapid, deep, facet garden development at lower elevations of the Pass. Any shaded aspects to terrain features ski best.
WX – FAIR Warmer temps and more sun will quickly change the texture to more corn on all but the most northern aspects through the weekend.
AVY- While there are plenty of DI releases on southerly aspects, most are running shallow and not stepping down yet. But the next few days could trigger some deeper releases as the Chugach wakes from winter.
